SCHEDULE:
· Regular work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
· Participation in the on-call rotation is required, with schedules published six months in advance.
· Inclement weather or emergency conditions may require 12-hour shifts as needed to support maintenance operations.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Join the team that maintains the electrical systems supporting the Elizabeth River Tunnels and related facilities. The Electrician performs hands-on troubleshooting, repair, installation, and preventive maintenance on power distribution, lighting, motors, instrumentation, controls, and facility electrical systems. This role helps keep critical transportation infrastructure operating safely and reliably. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Key Responsibilities:
· Troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain electrical and electro-mechanical systems, including wiring, motors, lighting controls, instrumentation, and related equipment.
· Respond to outages, equipment failures, and emergency repair needs to restore safe and reliable operation.
· Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, adjustments, and documentation for electrical systems and equipment.
· Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.
· Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout, and perform work in compliance with applicable NEC, OSHA, NFPA, and company requirements.
· Complete work orders, document time and materials used, and maintain accurate records for repairs, inspections, supplies, and equipment.
· Monitor contractor work, support other departments, communicate issues to leadership, and assist with special projects as assigned.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
· Complete assigned work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
· Keep electrical systems maintained and minimize unscheduled downtime.
· Respond promptly to electrical issues, equipment failures, and power-related problems.
· Maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, and inventory documentation.
· Communicate clearly with supervisors, team members, contractors, and other departments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Valid state-issued Journeyman or Master Electrical License required.
· Minimum of four years of electrical repair and maintenance experience required.
· Knowledge of wiring, circuitry, electrical systems, tools, equipment, materials, and applicable codes and standards.
· Ability to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain high- and low-voltage electrical systems and related equipment.
· Strong organization, attention to detail, communication, and coordination skills.
Ability to manage deadlines, support projects, work a flexible schedule, pass required background and drug screening.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crawl, climb, reach, push, pull, grasp, and perform repetitive hand and finger movements.
· Ability to hear, see, communicate, and follow detailed instructions in an active maintenance environment.
· Medium work: ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds regularly.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may involve varying weather conditions, extreme temperatures, elevated areas, electrical hazards, moving equipment, fumes, odors, dust, gases, and other maintenance-related conditions.
· The role requires safe work practices, situational awareness, and consistent use of required protective procedures and equipment.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Ability to troubleshoot problems, interpret instructions, use basic math, read technical information, write clearly, and communicate effectively with team members and leadership.
