Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for maintaining, repairing, and updating electrical equipment throughout the Company. Installs power sources and wiring, troubleshoots electrical problems, restores power when failures occur, and designs circuitry for special projects. Maintains parts inventory, completes work order records, and files all related paperwork. Assists area staff as required, responds to special requests, and keeps management well informed of area activities and of any significant problems.

Assumes responsibility for effectively completing electrical maintenance functions.
  1. Troubleshoots malfunctions in electrical circuits as necessary. Inspects wiring, checks connections and power sources, and logs repair needs.
  2. Installs and maintains motors, wiring, and all electrical equipment including control work for lighting, motors, and instrumentation.
  3. Restores power when failures have occurred and restarts and resets equipment as necessary.
  4. Designs circuitry for special installations or electrical modifications.
  5. Follows all safety rules and procedures, and operates electrical equipment in accordance with established safety regulations and department policies.
  6. Ensures all work is performed in accordance with NEC, OSHA, NFPA, etc. requirements.
  7. Makes correct and effective repairs, adjustments, etc. to electrical-mechanical equipment.
  8. Performs skilled routine and emergency electrical-mechanical work.
  9. Performs troubleshooting, diagnostics, and analysis of electrical-mechanical equipment.
  10. Reads blueprints of electrical/mechanical equipment.
  11. Performs Lockout/Tagout as required.
  12. When performing maintenance work, checks to determine if other, unassigned work in the immediate area, needs attention and proactively responds to the need; reports same to Senior Electrician and/or Electrical Supervisor.
  13. Document and report time worked and materials used.
  14. Makes routine decisions involving electrical-mechanical equipment operation and maintenance, and safe work practices.
  15. Performs all duties in a safe manner and adhere to all laws governing vehicle operation; maintain safe driving record with zero preventable accidents.
  16. Monitor contractors performing electrical-mechanical work.
  17. Inspect condition of equipment at end of day and ensure it is ready for next use.
  18. Performs all other duties as assigned.

  1. Documents test and inspection dates and results.
  2. Keeps electrical schematics and drawings current.
  3. Maintains inventory records for electrical supplies.
  4. Completes work orders, lists materials issued and used, and documents electrical work repairs.
Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with area staff and with management.
  1. Assists area staff as needed.
  2. Ensures that management is appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  3. Attends meetings as required.
  4. Meets the electrical needs of different departments throughout the Company.
Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  1. Ensures work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  2. Sends out parts and instruments to external repair locations as needed.
  3. Observes safety regulations and procedures.
  4. Ensures adherance to regulatory requirements.
  5. Completes special projects as assigned.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
  1. Assignments are completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and safety regulations. New installations are completed efficiently and effectively.
  2. Electrical equipment is well maintained and in good operating condition. Unscheduled downtime is minimized.
  3. Electrical problems and power failures are promptly addressed and resolved.
  4. Maintenance records, work orders, and inventory logs are accurate and up-to-date.
  5. Management is appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  6. Good communication and coordination exist with area staff and departments.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires completion of a high school diploma, general education degree (GED). Prior experience in maintenance and electrical repair AND completion of a two-year federally approved technical training program in electrical repair and maintenance; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Master Electrician license preferred; Journeyman Electrician license acceptable.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
  1. Climbing: Including ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.
  2. Balancing: May involve walking, standing, and/or crouching on narrow, slippery or moving surfaces.
  3. Kneeling: Resting on knee or knees
  4. Crouching: Bending downward and forward at the leg and spine.
  5. Stooping: Bending downward and forward at the waist. Requires full use of lower extremities and back muscles.
  6. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  7. Standing: For extended time periods.
  8. Walking: Especially for long distances.
  9. Pushing: Using upper body to press against something with steady force.
  10. Pulling: Using upper body to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects.
  11. Lifting: Use of upper body and back muscles to lift objects.
  12. Finger dexterity: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
  13. Grasping: Using fingers and palm on an object.
  14. Feeling: Perceiving sensual characteristics of objects including size, shape, texture, temperature, etc. through touch.
  15. Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  16. Repetitive motions: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  17. Acute Hearing: able to perceive a forced whispered voice in the better ear at not less than 5 feet with or without the use of a hearing aid or, if tested by use of an audiometric device, does not have an average hearing loss in the better ear greater than 40 decibels at 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz, and 2,000 Hz with or without a hearing aid when the audiometric device is calibrated to American National Standard (formerly ASA Standard) Z24.5—1951.
  18. Average Visual Abilities: Must have distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye without corrective lenses or visual acuity separately corrected to 20/40 (Snellen) or better with corrective lenses, distant binocular acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in both eyes with or without corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70° in the horizontal Meridian in each eye, and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber.
  19. Physical Strength: Exerting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or 10 lbs. regularly.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  1. Worker is subject to varying inside and/or outside temperatures, which may include extreme heat (temperatures above 100 degrees) or extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees).
  2. Work is performed both inside and outside. Subject to weather.
  3. Must work in a very noisy environment, which requires workers to shout to communicate.
  4. The worker is subject to significant vibrations.
  5. Must work under hazardous conditions including high places, chemical exposures, electrical current, moving machinery, exposure to blood, etc.
  6. The worker is subject to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc. and must be able to wear a tight-fitting facepiece respirator.
  7. Frequent local travel.
  8. He/she must be able to navigate the jobsite and is expected to be able to comply with all safety regulations on the jobsite.
MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
  1. Reasoning ability: Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Ablr to interpret various instructions.
  2. Language ability: Ability to use a passive vocabulary of 5,000-6,000 words; read at a slow rate; and define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation. Ability to write complex sentences, using proper punctuation, and using adjectives and adverbs. Ability to communicate in complex sentences, using normal word order with present and past tenses and good vocabulary.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with the job are required during emergency situations which may include but not limited to inclement weather, disaster response, and emergency operations. The position location is subject to change according to the needs of the organization.
