POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for performing a variety of accounting tasks to assist the Accounting Manager with various aspects of accounting and reporting including budget, general ledger, payroll, accounts receivable, and revenue. Accountant will prepare daily, monthly, and year-end reconciliations of specified general ledger accounts. Review the daily revenue reconciliations, oversee the work of the AP clerk and work together with the CCC Accountant. Assist with the year-end audit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITES:

Yearly:

  1. Assist in year-end audit and tax preparation.

  2. Assist in yearly budget.

  3. Review form 1099-misc to State, IRS, and required vendors prepared by AP Clerk.

Reconciliations:

  1. Perform monthly bank reconciliations.

  2. Perform monthly cash reconciliations by transferring cash from E-Zpass and video toll transactions to DB project revenue account.

  3. Prepare quarterly fixed assets reconciliation of all new additions/deletions of assets.

Revenue:

  1. Review daily record-keeping of cash received for E-ZPass & video toll transactions from CSC.

  2. Prepare and post revenue recognition journal entries from E-ZPass and video toll transactions.

  3. Audit refund packages from CCC every quarter.

Receivables:

  1. Perform reconciliations for accounts receivables.

  2. Create miscellaneous invoices for reimbursement by contractors/related parties.

  3. Post payment of the miscellaneous receivables by journal entries.

  4. Post deposits from customers/employees/vendors.

Payable:

  1. Review general ledger coding of accounts payable and prepare journal entries to reclassify when necessary.

  2. Create new vendors, select vendor type, and make sure that W-9 is provided.

Payroll:

  1. Assists with processing bi-weekly payroll, verify pay rates, ensure that employee benefits data are accurate.

  2. Prepare and post 401K into external retirement website.

  3. Prepare and post payroll journal entries to the general ledger

  4. Reconcile the employee’s health, dental, vision, all state insurance, and FSA between Kronos and general ledger.

  5. Reconcile employee’s miscellaneous deductions

  6. Reconcile the quarterly tax return from IRS and state with Kronos and general ledger.

Miscellaneous:

  1. Enter wires into BOFA Global Payment.

  2. Liaison with CCC Accountant and assist as issues arise.

  3. Monitor the work of the AP clerk


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a Bachelor’s degree in business with emphasis in accounting, is required and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience OR equivalent combination of experience and/or education. Experience with computerized accounting systems and spreadsheet applications are required. Great Plains and QuickBooks experience is preferred.

  6. Effectively organize large amounts of documentation, analyze information, create reports, present, and problem solve.
  7. Excellent organization skills, ability to set priorities and work under pressure to meet changing deadlines.
  8. Excellent proofing skills with strong attention to detail.
  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and maintain a professional demeanor.
  10. Practices good telephone etiquette skills, customer service and communications skills.
  11. Self-starter with the ability to work independently or with a group.
  12. Ability to obtain a VDOT Security Clearance
  13. Valid Virginia Driver’s License.
  14. Ability to pass a Criminal History Background Check and drug screen.

Physical Strength:
Sitting most of the time. No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally may be required. Good dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computers terminals, and copiers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job is performed in an office setting and requires frequent sitting (often working on a computer/terminal monitor), occasional walking, standing, bending, and reaching. Due to computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.

Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percents, and to
draw and interpret graphs.

Ability to use passive vocabulary or 5,000-6,000 words; read at a slow rate; and define unfamiliar
words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation. Ability to write complex
sentences, using proper punctuation, and using adjectives and adverbs. Ability to communicate
in complex sentences, using normal word order with present and past tenses and good vocabulary.
