POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for maintaining, repairing, and updating electrical equipment throughout the Company. Installs power sources and wiring, troubleshoots electrical problems, restores power when failures occur, and designs circuitry for special projects. Maintains parts inventory, completes work order records, and files all related paperwork. Assists area staff as required, responds to special requests, and keeps management well informed of area activities and of any significant problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
 
1. Assumes responsibility for effectively completing electrical maintenance functions.
  • Ensures all work is performed in accordance with NEC, OSHA, NFPA, etc. requirements.
  • Plans and develops work scheduled, equipment usage schedules, priority of electrical expenditures, and procedures for equipment and building maintenance.
  • Makes correct and effective repairs, adjustments, etc. to electrical-mechanical equipment.
  • Performs skilled routine and emergency electrical-mechanical work.
  • Performs troubleshooting, diagnostics, and analysis of electrical-mechanical equipment.
  • Reads blueprints of electrical/mechanical equipment.
  • Performs Lockout/Tagout as required.
  • When performing maintenance work, checks to determine if other, unassigned work in the immediate area, needs attention and proactively responds to the need; reports same to Senior Electrician and/or Electrical Supervisor.
  • Document and report time worked and materials used.
  • Makes routine decisions involving electrical-mechanical equipment operation and maintenance, and safe work practices.
  • Monitor contractors performing electrical-mechanical work.
  • Inspect condition of equipment at end of day and ensure it is ready for next use.
 
2. Assumes responsibility for the effective maintenance of Company facilities. 
  •  Keeps electrical schematics and drawings current. 
  •  Documents test and inspection dates and results
  •  Maintains inventory records for electrical supplies.
  •  Completes work orders, list materials issued and used, and documents electrical work repairs
  
3.  Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with area staff, other departments, and with management.
  •  Assists area staff as needed.
  •  Ensures that management is appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  •  Attends meetings as required.
  •  Ensures reports are completed accurately and timely.
  •  Meets the electrical needs of different departments throughout the Company.
   
4.  Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Ensures work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Observes safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ensures adherance to regulatory requirements.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:
  • Assignments are completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and safety regulations.New installations are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Electrical equipment is well maintained and in good operating condition.Unscheduled downtime is minimized.
  • Electrical problems and power failures are promptly addressed and resolved.
  • Maintenance records, work orders, and inventory logs are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Management is appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems. 
  • Good communication and coordination exist with area staff and departments. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education/Certification:       High school graduate or equivalent with  2-year federally approved technical training program in electrical repair and maintenance; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which                                                 comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. A journeyman electrician license is also . 
                                               
Required Knowledge:           Knowledge of wiring, circuitry, installation and maintenance.
                                                Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the electrical/mechanical trade.
                                                Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
                                                Knowledge of electrical applications for high and low voltage electrical systems.
                                                Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of electrical system equipment and components.
                                                                                                 
Experience Required:           A minimum of two (2) years of electrical repair and maintenance experience.

Skills/Abilities:                       Well-organized and detail oriented.
                                                 Effective verbal and written communication skills.
                                                 Able to meet deadlines and manage projects. 
                                                 Able to coordinate well with other departments and personnel.
                                                 Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.             
                                                 Ability to obtain a Criminal History Background Check and drug screen.
                                                 Valid Virginia Driver License within 6 months.
 
 
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:
 
Climbing:                                       Including ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.
 
Stooping:                                       Bending downward and forward at the waist.  Requires full use of lower extremities and back muscles.
 
Crawling:                                       Moving on hands and knees or hands and feet.
 
Reaching:                                       Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
 
Standing:                                        For extended time periods.
 
Walking:                                          Especially for long distances.
 
Pushing:                                          Using upper body to press against something with steady force.
 
Pulling:                                            Using upper body to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects.
 
Lifting:                                             Use of upper body and back muscles to lift objects.
 
Finger Dexterity:                            Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
 
Grasping:                                        Using fingers and palm on an object.
 
Feeling:                                            Perceiving sensual characteristics of objects including size, shape, texture, temperature, etc. through touch.
 
Talking:                                            Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
 
Average Hearing:                            Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
 
Repetitive Motions:                        Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
 
Average Visual Abilities:               Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.
 

Physical strength:                    Medium work; exerting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or 10 lbs. constantly.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
 
                                                                Worker is subject to varying inside and/or outside temperatures, which may include
                                                                extreme heat (temperatures above 100 degrees) or extreme cold (temperatures below 32
                                                                degrees).
                                                                Work is performed both inside and outside.  Subject to weather.
 
                                                                Must work under hazardous conditions including high places, chemical exposures,
                                                                electrical current, moving machinery, exposure to blood, etc.
 
                                                                The worker is subject to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc., which affect the
                                                                skin or respiratory system.
                                    
 
 
MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:
 
Reasoning Ability:                       Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Able to interpret various instructions.
 
Mathematics Ability:                   Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percents, and to and interpret graphs.

Language Ability:                        Ability to use a passive vocabulary of 5,000-6,000 words; read at a slow rate; and define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation.
 
                                                      Ability to write complex sentences, using proper punctuation, and using adjectives and adverbs.
 
                                                      Ability to communicate in complex sentences, using normal word order with present and past tenses and good vocabulary.
