 POSITION SUMMARY:
 
Responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the electrical staff engaged in construction, maintenance and repair of electric power, lighting, communication systems of buildings, mechanical systems, and transportation equipment  Keeps management well informed of area activities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
 
1. Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of electrical department.
  •  Ensures electrical functions and duties are accurately and promptly completed.Ensures smooth workflow by establishing effective schedules and balanced distribution of work.
  •  Plans and develops work scheduled, equipment usage schedules, priority of electrical expenditures, and procedures for equipment and building maintenance.
  •  Plans wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures such as motors, generators, switches, circuit breakers, and fuse boxes.
  •  Inspects buildings in order to determine electrical maintenance needs by visual observation, gages, meters, and other test equipment.
  •  Studies blueprints and schematics in order to plan the material and labor needed to accomplish tasks.
  •  Inspects and evaluates electrical equipment to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely; determines whether equipment and new installations meet requirements of the National Electrical Code.
  •  Ensures compliance with existing electrical codes and maintenance standards.
  •  Interpret, understand, and use the National Electrical Code, OSHA requirements, NFPA.
  •  Develops and maintains MSDS catalog.
  •  Requisitions and/or purchases supplies, materials, and tools.
  •  Maintains time, payroll, work orders (Maximo Asset Management), material, equipment, and other electrical shop records, and submits reports.
  •  Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  •  Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
 
2. Effectively supervises Electrical personnel, ensuring optimal performance. 
  •  Provides leadership to personnel through effective objective goal setting, delegation, and communication. 
  •  Trains and directs staff.  Ensures personnel are well-informed of new work methods, safety regulations, policies and procedures. Provides support as needed.
  •  Conducts performance reviews as required.  Gives useful, motivating feedback and discusses areas needing improvement.
  •  Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed.
  •  Ensures appropriate use of Company resource.

3.  Assumes responsibility for ensuring professional business relations with vendors, contractors, and trade professionals.
  • Works to develop and maintain productive business relations with vendors, suppliers, contractors, etc. 
  • Acts as a liaison between the Company and external contacts.
  • Ensures effective coordination of external services with Company operations.  
  • Obtains and conveys information as appropriate.
  • Promotes goodwill and a positive image of the Company.
 
4.  Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with area staff, other departments, and with management.
  •  Assists personnel in other departments to increase understanding of electrial and maintenance operations.
  •  Coordinates with other departments to complete shared maintenance projects and assisgments.
  •  Keeps management well informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  •  Ensures reports are completed accurately and timely.
  •  Attends meetings as required.
  
5.  Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Ensures work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Performs miscellaneous projects as assigned.
  • Updates technical skills as required.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:
  • Assignments are completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and safety regulations.New installations are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Electrical equipment is well maintained and in good operating condition.Unscheduled downtime is minimized.
  • Electrical problems and power failures are promptly addressed and resolved.
  • Electrical personnel are well-trained, efficient, effective, and appropriately supervised.Electrical operations and workflow are effectively coordinated and scheduled. Personnel are assisted and supported as needed.
  • Maintenance records, work orders, and inventory logs are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Good communication and coordination exist with Company personnel and with management.Information is obtained and conveyed as needed. Management is informed of area activities and of any significant concerns.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education/Certification:       High school graduate with a four-year or 2-year federally approved technical training program in electrical repair and maintenance; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which                                                 comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. A journeyman electrician license is also required. 
                                               
Required Knowledge:           Knowledge of test equipment and electrical blueprints and schematics.
                                                Thorough understanding of high voltage safety procedures.
                                                Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the electrical/mechanical trade.
                                                Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
                                                Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques.
                                                Knowledge of electrical applications for high and low voltage electrical systems.
                                                Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of electrical system equipment and components.
                                                Skill in estimating time and material requirements of assigned work projects.  
                                                Ability to calculate time and materials, voltage drops, interpret mete displays, etc 

                                                   
Experience Required:           A minimum of six (6) years of electrical repair and maintenance experience which includes one year of supervisor experience.

Skills/Abilities:                       Ability to train and supervise others.
                                                 Well-organized and detail oriented.
                                                 Able to meet deadlines and manage projects. 
                                                 Able to coordinate well with other departments and personnel.
                                                 Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.             
                                                 Ability to obtain a Criminal History Background Check and drug screen.
                                                 Valid Virginia Driver License within 6 months.

 
 
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:
 
Climbing:                                       Including ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.
 
Stooping:                                       Bending downward and forward at the waist.  Requires full use of lower extremities and back muscles.
 
Crawling:                                       Moving on hands and knees or hands and feet.
 
Reaching:                                       Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
 
Standing:                                        For extended time periods.
 
Walking:                                          Especially for long distances.
 
Pushing:                                          Using upper body to press against something with steady force.
 
Pulling:                                            Using upper body to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects.
 
Lifting:                                             Use of upper body and back muscles to lift objects.
 
Finger Dexterity:                            Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
 
Grasping:                                        Using fingers and palm on an object.
 
Feeling:                                            Perceiving sensual characteristics of objects including size, shape, texture, temperature, etc. through touch.
 
Talking:                                            Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
 
Average Hearing:                            Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
 
Repetitive Motions:                        Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
 
Average Visual Abilities:               Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.
 

Physical strength:                    Medium work; exerting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or 10 lbs. constantly.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
 
                                                                Worker is subject to varying inside and/or outside temperatures, which may include
                                                                extreme heat (temperatures above 100 degrees) or extreme cold (temperatures below 32
                                                                degrees).
                                                                Work is performed both inside and outside.  Subject to weather.
 
                                                                Must work under hazardous conditions including high places, chemical exposures,
                                                                electrical current, moving machinery, exposure to blood, etc.
 
                                                                The worker is subject to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc., which affect the
                                                                skin or respiratory system.
                                    
 
 
MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:
 
Reasoning Ability:                       Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Able to interpret various instructions.
 
Mathematics Ability:                   Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percents, and to and interpret graphs.

Language Ability:                        Ability to use a passive vocabulary of 5,000-6,000 words; read at a slow rate; and define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation.
 
                                                      Ability to write complex sentences, using proper punctuation, and using adjectives and adverbs.
 
                                                      Ability to communicate in complex sentences, using normal word order with present and past tenses and good vocabulary.
